My town---now and then
ADANA from past to now…………
Adana is the most important city in the ancient Cilician region,and cradle of many civilisations from Hittities to Ottomans.The city is located by the river Seyhan.From the year 1352 to now,it has changed a lot.Here are some photos from recent Adana and modern Adana.
Adana Central Station is the central station of Adana and one of the major railway hubs in Turkey. The station is located at the Uğur Mumcu Square, steps to the Vilayet station of the metro. he first train station of Adana was built in 1886 at the Kuruköprü area in part of the 67 km (42 mi) railway line that connected Adana to Mersin. The station building is built in the First National Architectural Style. It is a 3-story structure covered with wide eaves triangular roof and has a U-plan in which the open area faces the square. There are administrative offices. The main hall, which is at the height of two floors, is interesting with its spacious environment.
AbidinPasha lived in Adana between 1880 and 1885 and he was governer in Adana .The famous artist Abidin Dino is his grandchild.He carried out a lot of works and buildings for Adana,so its name has been given to the most crowded street in Adana.This street is stil the busiest one in Adana.It is the centre of banks.
Adana is the cradle of cultures.That’s why a rich culture has been formed.The bazaars are very important in a civilazition life.The people used to get together,shop and share material things in bazaars in old days and it is stil same ,you can easily see people while they are shopping..
Küçüksaat is one of the most crowded place in Adana.It was very crowded 30-40 years ago and it is still very busy with its shopping buildings.
Although many of the old Adana houses were pulled down, some have stil been standing.Tepebağ is the oldest district ofAdana.The houses are the synthesis of general characteristics which can be seen in the plans of Turkish houses with the special characteristics of the Mediterranean Region
Taşköprü ( Stone Bridge) is a Roman bridge spanning the Seyhan River in Adana. Until 2007, it was the oldest bridge in the world to be open to motorized vehicles. It was then set for pedestrians only, now hosting social and cultural events. The bridge was built during Roman Empire by the architect Auxentius.D uring Sultan Abdülhamid's reign, restoration was done at the bridge by Governor Osman Paşa.
The length of the bridge in present is 310 m. The road on it, is paved with cobblestone, the width is 11.4 m including sidewalks. The ornaments on the bridge is the lion artwork on north side of the 11th arch and the star-crescent artwork. Evliya Çelebi notes that the apron is 550 feet long. 14 big arches and 5 small discharging arches remained to present, out of the 21 original arches. During the re-arrangement of the river banks, both sides were filled and the bridge was shortened when the tails of the bridge were left underground.
It was built by Adana governer Bahri Pasha in Kuruköprü 1901 .It was used until 1950 but at the beginning of 1950 it was destroyed because of transit roads constructions.In the year 1992, the architect Zeynep Çavuşoğlu designed and made the the new version of the fountain in Atatürk Park.
It is located on Ali Münif Street.The construction started in 1881 by Governer Ziya Pasha and upon his death it was completed by the governer Abidin Pasha 1882.Built of brick and 32 meters tall.It has a look of medieval watchtowers

It is in the middle of the city.There is Ziyapasha Boulevard at the left and Atatürk Boulevard at the right.It is one of the biggest parks in Turkey.It has got thousands kinds of flowers,plants and trees.
